Platelets are known as "the clotters", but Platelets are responsible for far more that just encouraging cells to "plug a hole"

When there is an injury, blood cells rush to the site to form a clot to stop bleeding and start the process of healing.

What forms at the injury is a clump of cells all there doing their job to stop bleeding, and start healing. Represented here as the silky threads being weaved within the clot, is collagan. It is the platelet formation that stimulates the collagen production. Platelets make up about 10% of your blood. The goal of PRP is to collected and concentrate platelets anywhere from 2 to 8 times their normal number.

The blood is placed into a centrifuge.

A cnetrifuge is a machine that spins so quickly, it causes the "heaviest" parts of the blood to go to the bottom of the tube and helps separate the blood into layers.

The injected platelets release huge numbers of growth factors, which induce an inflammatory reaction that initiates a healing cascade. Growth factors stimulate blood flow, matrix formation, which helps form new soft tissue, and restores tendon and ligament proteins, and strengthen cartilage.
